Extendicare Announces Proposed Changes to Board of Directors

Extendicare Inc., a leading provider of senior care services in Canada, has announced proposed changes to its Board of Directors ahead of its annual shareholders meeting scheduled for April 16, 2026. The company has nominated Josh Blair and Leslee Thompson as new members of the Board, where they are expected to bring extensive experience in technology, healthcare, and corporate leadership.

At the same time, Extendicare announced that current Board Chair Alan Torrie and Board member Donna Kingelin will not be standing for re-election after serving on the Board for more than ten years. The company thanked both leaders for their long-term service and contributions to the organisation.

During his time as Chair, Alan Torrie played a major role in transforming Extendicare from a real estate-focused company into a healthcare services-focused organisation. His leadership helped the company shift its strategy toward expanding healthcare services and improving care for seniors. Donna Kingelin also played an important role in the company by leading the Human Resources Committee and later the Quality and Risk Committee, helping to strengthen the company’s healthcare services and operational standards.

The company also confirmed that the remaining seven current Board members will stand for re-election at the upcoming annual meeting. If re-elected, current director Samir Manji is expected to become the new Chair of the Board after the meeting. Samir Manji is an experienced business leader and currently serves as Executive Chair of RFA Financial Inc. He is also the founder and CEO of Sandpiper Group, a real estate investment firm based in Vancouver. He has more than 30 years of experience in real estate, seniors’ housing and business leadership and has been a member of Extendicare’s Board since 2019.

One of the new Board nominees, Josh Blair, is the Co-Founder and CEO of Impro.AI, a technology company that provides AI-powered workforce insights and performance solutions. He has over 30 years of experience in executive leadership and board roles across multiple industries, including healthcare, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and data services. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at TELUS Corporation, where he oversaw major business divisions including TELUS Health and TELUS Digital.

The second nominee, Leslee Thompson, is an experienced healthcare leader and corporate director. She recently served as President and CEO of Health Standards Organization and Accreditation Canada, organisations that focus on improving healthcare quality and standards in Canada and internationally. She started her career as an intensive care unit nurse and later held leadership roles in several major healthcare organisations, including Kingston General Hospital, Medtronic Canada, Cancer Care Ontario, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and University Health Network.

Outgoing Chair Alan Torrie said that he was proud to be part of Extendicare’s transformation into a leading healthcare services company and expressed confidence in the future leadership of the Board. He said he believes the new leadership team will continue to guide the company’s strategy and help expand access to care services across communities.

Extendicare is one of Canada’s leading providers of senior care and health services. The company operates long-term care homes, home healthcare services, and group purchasing services across the country. Currently, Extendicare operates 99 long-term care homes, provides approximately 14 million hours of home healthcare services each year, and supports healthcare services representing more than 153,000 beds across Canada. The company employs around 23,000 staff members and also manages an additional 5,000 workers through joint ventures.

The proposed Board changes are part of Extendicare’s ongoing leadership transition and long-term strategy to strengthen its governance, expand healthcare services, and improve care for seniors across Canada. The company aims to continue growing as a healthcare services provider while maintaining high standards of care and operational excellence.
