Improving Coordination Between Mental Health Services and A&E: Lessons and Insights
29 April 2026
Between May 2025 and April 2026, the Interface Improvement Programme supported healthcare teams across 18 acute care locations to improve services between mental health and A&E departments. The programme focused on understanding the challenges at the point where mental health services and emergency departments work together and finding practical solutions to improve patient care.
During the programme, teams worked on solving local problems and developing better ways to support patients who require both emergency and mental health services. This improvement work will continue even after the programme ends, as organisations aim to make long-term changes in healthcare services.
The event will share the experiences and reflections of the teams who participated in the programme. Guest speakers and programme ambassadors will also share their knowledge, advice and lessons learned from their improvement work. The session will also give attendees the opportunity to ask questions, connect with others and gain useful insights.
This event is designed for people who want to improve services between mental health and emergency departments, including clinicians, improvement leaders, facilitators, regulators, policy makers and healthcare organisations working to improve patient care.
